Round 11 Recap

We were back at home in the Jungle on Saturday night where we faced the Goldfield Giants.

The women finished with a win, taking them to a total of 10 wins for the season so far, and retaining their second spot on the ladder.

After establishing a 12 point lead at quarter time, the Tigers looked in great shape to take out the win. The Giants kept pushing and managed to cut the lead to 8 at half time.

It came down to the wire in the final quarter, with an integral basket by Sam Lubcke with 36 seconds remaining, and Alex Sharp making both free throws with just 16 seconds left in the game. A big block by Alex Sharp prevented the Giants from scoring in the final 15 seconds, and the Tigers finished with the win 77 -73.

Sam Lubcke was a standout with 25 points, 9 rebounds and 2 assists. Emma Gandini had 15 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists and 2 steals, while Alex Sharp and Tayla Hepburn contributed 11 points and 4 assists each.

The men’s game was another nail biter for the night, with a dramatic finish. The game was an arm wrestle from the beginning, with the Tigers being down by 1 point at quarter time, and then nudging in front by 1 point at the half, and extending the lead to 3 points at 3 quarter time.

The last quarter was set to be a big one, and the Tigers managed to maintain their lead until the dying minutes of the game. The Giants got out to a 5 point lead with 41 seconds left on the clock. Hunter Clarke responded with a huge 3 point bucket with 31 seconds left to bring the deficit back to just 2 points.

A fast break dunk by the Giants followed by a clever drive from Damien Scott saw the Giants still up by 2 with 18 seconds to go. Despite the hard fought efforts of the Tigers, a few clutch free throws from the Giants made the final score 81 – 86.

Oliver Hayes-Brown had yet another double double with 25 points 15 rebounds and 2 steals. Damien Scott put up another solid performance with 18 points, 3 rebounds, 7 assists and 3 steals and Hunter Clark had 8 points, 6 rebounds, and 2 assists.
